Recently the Portland Police filmed a ride along with the Mobile Crisis Unit (a team within the Behavioral Health Unit). These are police who are trained in safe mental health intervention and each paired with a Cascadia Project Respond team member. This team deescalates situations involving people with mental illnesses and helps assess the next steps from a behavioral stand point. This video demonstrates how a typical call with the Mobile Crisis Unit plays out.
